Why is click counting sometimes needed?
Manufacturers discourage selecting partial doses by clicks, but the practice still comes up in a few situations:
- Smaller starting dose or slower titration. When the labeled starting dose or a full step up is not tolerated.
- Restarting after a break. When labels direct restarting at a lower dose that does not match the pen strength on hand.
- Shortages and cost. When a strength is unavailable, or when a higher-strength pen is more cost-effective per mg.
