SPINA-GT ranges

According to Dietrich et al. (2016), SPINA-GT should be between 1.4 and 8.7:
1.4
8.7
Risk Scale
Optimal range for SPINA-GT appears to be between 2.32 and 7.76:
0
1.41
2.32
7.76
8.67
15
Why this optimal range?
Reference range 1.41-8.67 pmol/s as defined in SPINA-THYR software.
Ranges in red are: ±2xSD from the mean, ranges in yellow are ±1.5-2xSD from the mean.

Estimated maximum thyroid hormone production capacity under TSH stimulation.

SPINA-GT estimates the maximum stimulated thyroid hormone output - how much T4 the thyroid gland can produce under TSH stimulation. It reflects the functional capacity of the thyroid gland itself.

It is insensitive to disorders of secondary nature (e.g. pure pituitary diseases).

SPINA-GT interpretation

For low

Low SPINA-GT indicates reduced thyroid secretory capacity.

  • Primary hypothyroidism
  • Autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's)
  • Iodine deficiency

For high

Elevated SPINA-GT indicates increased thyroid secretory capacity.

  • Primary hyperthyroidism
  • Graves' disease
  • It has been observed to positively correlate to resting energy expenditure, resting heart rate, the colour Doppler ultrasound pattern and thyroid volume.
